Week Eighty Seven

Monday, April 02, 2012 6:41 AM

Hey Mom!

Nothing changed with transfers, so I´ll be here in Paranaguá until May at least. I think that after that I´ll be outta here, just because after this I´ve only got 2 transfers left, but who knows? I never know what to expect with transfers, even more as a leader.
I weighed myself for the first time in a while, and I´m at 180 lbs, 40 pounds lighter than when I came here. It´s crazy; I never even noticed how much I´d changed until I got on the scale. But it´s a really great feeling, and I want to keep going; I´m hoping to be down to 170 by the time I get home.

This week was nuts with transfers, since two missionaries were going home and a lot of the others were transferred, but we still managed to have a baptism between the sessions on Sunday! It was really great; we were nervous because his dad wasn´t sure if he´d let him get baptized, but we  prayed a lot and in the end it all worked out. We found a few really great people this week too, so I think we can keep the success going this month. I just hope the zone stays excited; if we´re not all in it, it gets tough. But so far, my time here´s been great; the last time the zone didn´t have a baptism was in January, so we´re really working well. This transfer´s only 5 weeks long, which means there´s already only 4 weeks left, so everyone´s going to have to get on their horse (as Dad and Nick would say) if we want to see some progress. Everyone´s got people to teach though, which is good, and we´ll keep the excitement going for sure.

Conference was great! I liked all of the talks a lot this time; it was hard to choose a favorite. Unfortunately, I could only watch it in Portuguese, but it was still really good. I liked President Eyring´s talk in the Saturday session a lot, and Elder Scott´s talk on revelation was really great, even though he translates his own talks into portuguese and they´re really hard to understand because of his accent. I realized that we have so much that we can do, and that we really need to be the example and help those around us, be they members or non members. I thought they put a lot of emphasis on bringing those less active members back, and I felt inspired to help with that when I get home and while I´m here. It was all great, and I learned a lot. Lots of changes too; it was crazy!

I´m doing great mom, and i hope all´s well there. Don´t worry about me, I´ll keep working at the same pace as always, and I´ll let you know how everything goes. Take a few pictures at the temple for me; I´d love to see them! I`m so excited for Nick and for you guys; I can´t believe he´s almost out! Love you mom, and have a great week!!!!! Love you!!!!!!!!!!!

Love, Eric

Hey Dad!

Sorry the hour´s kinda sporradic, but I think that we´ll be coming to do email around this time this transfer, because it makes things easier on us. Conference was great; you´ll really like it. We watched it in the chapel, and a lot of people were there, but about 25% or so stayed home to watch it, I´d say. Here only the stake centers have a satelitte dish usually, so most of the stake was at our chapel watching it. It was really great; I took a TON of notes. Watch the Priesthood session ASAP; it was by far my favorite and it really helped me to see what kind of responsibility we have as priesthood holders. We have to actively USE our priesthood or it´s like keeping mom´s mustang in the garage all year. The priesthood is selfless, and it doesn´t benefit us at all if we don´t use it to help others. I know you´re working hard to magnify your calling, I just got really inspired hearing the words of our prophets seers and revelators. Conference on the mission is my favorite time of year.

This weekend marked a year from my first baptism, and we comemorated it baptizing! It was a little stressful, but it all worked out, and when it happens like that I realize that it´s all in God´s hands, this work. He puts us in the right places and helps us to make the right choices so that we can bless the lives of others, and that´s really the joy of missionary work. He was so happy, and I got a renewal of the desire to give everything I have.

As far as here in the area, nothing changed with transfers, so until May I`ll be in Paranaguá. I´m excited, because we got some missionaries in the zone that are ready to get to work.

I can´t believe you guys are headed to the temple! That´s so awesome. Take a bunch of pictures, and let me know how it all goes! Things here are great as always. Still hot, but it got cold last week and I found out I prefer the heat here at least. We´ll see what happens, but you can be sure that I´ll be working like a dog like I always do! Keep up everything Dad, and if I can do anything to help let me know! Love you and have a great week! Love you!!!!!!

Love, Eric
